The North Saskatchewan River was running calm this evening as we anchored the boat. It was easy reading water as the line went singing through the air to a good looking sturgeon spot. The weight had hardly cut into the river and bang sturgeon on. 5 Lake Sturgeon later and a by catch of Walleye, Goldeye, and Shorthead Redhorse and our 2 hours of fishing was quickly fading into dusk.
Boated 3 sturgeon in a couple hours of fishing and rain in the mountains has the North Saskatchewan River running river at a constant flow level but it still remains turbid. North Saskatchewan River Bald Eagles are off thier nests and can be see all along the river.
Sunrise was clear on the North Saskatchewan River today but I decided to work on the North Saskatchewan River Guide Cabin then go sturgeon fishing in the afternoon.17 boated Lake Sturgeon with Goldeye, Longnose, Walleye and Shorthead Redhorse by-catch rounded out the afternoon. Boated a couple large Lake Sturgeon, then located and caught a small school of 13 juvenile Lake Sturgeon all about the same size as this future North Saskatchewan River monster. North Saskatchewan River Lake Sturgeon Recovery is obvious as all slot sizes can be caught in large numbers. The river remains turbid but the colour is beginning to lighten up.
The Farrners Almanac was right it really is a Sturgeon Moon. I hooked into 8 North Saskatchewan River sturgeon in only 2hrs of fishing today 3 50lb Lake Sturgeon burned the reel and the unmistakable sound of the drag slipping on hook sets of big sturgeon was music in my ears. The sight of River Otters gliding around the boat mixed with the unmistakable bite of sturgeon triggering the rod made for a special day. Sun was setting in the west on a crimson coloured river as the Sturgeon Moon rose above the rivers lush green tree line into the star studded sky. Gotta love the North Saskatchewan River.
I finished another North Saskatchewan River cool water slam this morning by boating the north Saskatchewan River Quillback the last one on my list of North Saskatchewan River cool water species. A real bonus included 2 sturgeon hookups over 50lbs and a giant SilverRedhorse.
Had a couple daylight hours to kill and went sturgeon fishing today. Boated 6 sturgeon in a hour/half and a monster Silver Redhorse. Got the electrical plumbed into the cabin today should be finished by mid August.
Work on the cabin today was a real drag in the blistering heat. Putting the tin roof on had my body soaked from sweat as the humidty and heat built thunder clouds all around Heinsburg today. Grabbed an ice cream cone to cool off and went fishing for sturgeon before the storm. Located a place in the shade and boated 5 North Saskatchewan River Lake Sturgeon in 1hr before dark.
